3 Strategies To Craft Quality Mobile Apps

by admin April 24, 2018

We live in a culture that’s obsessed with the four-hour workweek, growth hacking, and the desire for instant results with minimal effort. Although you can get a huge win in a short period of time, long-term success requires focus on your vision, mission, and continuously improving your product or service.

Craftsmanship is one of our core values at Broadway Lab. Although we build mobile apps for our clients, we care about their product like it’s our own.

Here are the three principles we abide by when working on a mobile app.

Be Detail-Oriented

The very notion of craftsmanship is doing the little things right. It’s the little things in your product or service that make all the difference. It’s the micro-interactions that save the user a tap. It’s the subtle movement of an icon. It’s the change in artwork that gives a better understanding of the product. It’s minimizing eye movement, so the user can see everything they need to. Every interaction matters.

Make sure the code under the hood is beautiful, documented, and well-tested. There’s certainly a balance between over-engineering a product and making something shoddy in order to ship it. We still walk that line. But we aim to get the details right.

Understand Your Users

Knowledge is power. Understanding the problem at hand and how the product we’re building is aligned with the business goals of the team is essential for making an incredible product.

When starting a new project, we often start with our roadmapping product. A key portion of this package is understanding the user and our client’s goals for the project. This allows us to be on the same page and use the correct lens when making product decisions.

Craftsmanship is a constant series of improvements. It’s getting better over time and making continuous improvements to the product.

We don’t expect to get everything right from the beginning. That requires ongoing effort. Facebook was hacked up in a few weeks, but the constant evolving nature of the platform requires thousands of engineers working around the clock to make improvements.

We bring the same mindset to products at a smaller scale. By constantly adjusting and making things better, we strive to build better apps.
